Also Isaac, I just now saw your first question. I did not see it because it was posted as a comment to the "Welcome" post. To receive the most prompt feedback, please post in the current week's post.
With regards to HW2, I have a concern. In both the sample problem in the text and problem 1, the stress state matrix is symmetric. However, in problem 2, it is not; I am wondering if this is intentional. (Tau_zx /= Tau_xz)
NOTE: I plan on asking about this tomorrow during class, but I am curious, and hope for a response here, in the case I should forget about it in the AM!
To what extent are we allowed to use our calculators to solve determinants, matrix equations, and other things on HW 2 and elsewhere? If I didn't use my calculator to do half of the operations, I'd still be working on this next month.
So long as you can prove that you have a good grasp on what you're doing, use of a calculator is okay to an extent. However, be sure that you take me through the process of your calculations. Restating the problem, then writing an answer isn't enough. For example, in the last homework, someone got a perfect score with 1.5 pages of work... another person got a perfect score with 6 pages of work... yet also, someone had the exact correct answers but didn't show the process and didn't do as well...

I posted a question last week and have not received a response. Anyway, when and where are your office hours, Angelo?

Just a reminder, the stress matrix for #2 has been changed:
[sigma] =
[ 4 0 -4 ]
[ 0 3 0 ]
[ -4 0 -2 ]
Homework2 is still due this Thursday.
